The Ford Focus will get a redesign for 2012, and with that improved fuel economy. The 2.0-liter engine coming early next year to the North American version of the Ford Focus will be one of the first on the market to combine the technology of gasoline direct injection (DI) with twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) and E85 flex fuel capability.

Horsepower is estimated at 160 and torque 146 lb.-ft., up from 140 and 136 respectively in the 2011 Ford Focus. Direct injection improves fuel economy and performance by delivering the precise amount of gasoline right into the combustion chamber. Thanks to DI, the engine can safely operate at a high 12:1 compression ratio, compared with the 2011 Focus PFI engine’s 10:1 ratio, further enhancing power and efficiency. And unlike most competitive direct injection systems, the engine will be E85 flex fuel-capable. The high-pressure fuel injectors are positioned to the side of each cylinder, aiming the fuel directly into the cylinder adjacent to a high-intensity spark plug and alongside the intake and exhaust valves. Fuel is sprayed into the cylinders at pressures of up to 2,150 pounds per square inch, which is about 35 times more intense than PFI injection.

The 2011 Ford Fiesta sets new benchmarks for the affordable small car class. On sale in Europe since 2008, the most recent iteration of the Fiesta has finally arrived at dealerships in the U.S. The Fiesta gets high marks from almost category because it offers things many other small cars lack: a fun driving experience and a comfortable, upscale cabin. With the Fiesta, Ford may radically alter what American buyers expect from small cars. The Fiesta has features rarely seen in the Small / Subcompact Car class, from available heated seats to Ford’s SYNC system to an airbag for the driver’s knees. Anyone who hasn’t been in a Mustang for a couple of years will want to take a look at the 2011. Much improved for 2010, the 2011 sees some interior changes that add to the overall comfort and appeal of this vehicle. The front bucket seats are significantly more comfortable and better looking than those used in the 2009 models, though they could still use slightly more lateral support. The aforementioned noise, vibration and harshness improvements have made what was once a rather loud car pleasingly quiet, though the Mustang’s all-American pony car rumble is still audible to drivers and onlookers alike.

The 2011 Mustang is offered in V6 Base and Premium models, V8-powered GT Base and Premium models, and the supercharged V8-powered GT500. Each are available in coupe and convertible body styles. V6 models use a new 3.7-liter V6 that makes 305 horsepower. GT models have a new 5.0-liter V8 that produces 412 horsepower. The GT500s have an updated 5.4-liter V8 that produces a whopping 550 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional on all but the GT500.

The 2011 Ford Mustang comes in three body styles: coupe, convertible, and a glass-roof coupe. Each is available in both the traditional V6 model and the V8-powered Mustang GT. Both the V6 and V8 engines are more powerful in 2011.

Ford Start Concept Introduced

Ford has revealed the Ford Start concept at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show. The automaker’s attempt was to create a nd practical and realistic vehicle that found a perfect balance between commuting needs and excellent fuel efficiency. This is Ford’s first concept in three years.. Although the Start shows traces of Ford’s “kinetic” design language, its rounded form is much more elegant. Angular edges are limited to both the shoulder lines and the slender, LED-powered headlamp and taillights. Function doesn’t necessarily follow form, however, as stylists made an effort to improve the car’s aerodynamics. Many surfaces, including the windshield, side window glass, and center stop lamp, are flush with the body, while an underbody aero pan further reduces the Start’s drag. The interior is as equally stylish and functional — the floating dual-cockpit dashboard lends a sporty look, but a conceptual infotainment system, billed as “MyFord Mobile,” incorporates a multi-function touch screen to simplify the center stack.

The turbocharged, 1.0-liter I-3 utilizes a cast-iron block, but a cylinder head and sump fabricated from cast aluminum. Ford won’t talk power figures, saying only that early tests suggest it can produce power on par with its 1.6-liter I-4, which is rated at 120 horsepower in North America. Power is routed to the front wheels via an ordinary five-speed manual transaxle.
