Hey all. I wanted to tell you about a great award that the Ford F-150 won. Now I know most of you do not know this, but the Ford F-150 won the “Truck of the Year” award which is announced by Motor Trend Magazine. One of the big reasons that this truck won this award was because of its Turbocharged EcoBoost engine. This engine mixes efficiency with power. In fact, this engine is more powerful than the regular 5.0 L V-8 one. The 2011 Ford F-150 can also tow more than the 5 L V-8 when equipped with this engine. With the price of gasoline about $1.00 per gallon higher than last year, it only makes sense that Ford would see an increase in sales of their vehicles with higher gas mileage. May sales from the popular Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus saw an increase of 32% over sales from a year ago. With advances in fuel injection technology and turbo charging, smaller the automaker has been able to get as much power out of 4 Cylinder engines that drivers expect from 6 cylinders. And not surprising, sales of Ford F-150 with a 6 cylinder engine are ahead of their counterparts sold with a V-8.
In European markets these sales numbers have existed for years. Cost of fuel in most European nations is double or triple what we are used to paying here. It is not so much by choice but rather by necessity that European drivers have had to adapt their preferences.
Ford has been experiencing some pre- Great Recession sales numbers across the full spectrum of their offerings but the strongest increases have been seen in vehicles that save at the pump.

Ford is aggressively pursuing technological capabilities that will allow cars to communicate wirelessly with other cars and provide a
360 degree view of potential hazards as you are driving.
These “intelligent” vehicles will be able to alert drivers and slow the car down if there is a sudden change in traffic patterns ahead, alert the driver if there is someone in their blind spot when changing lanes, and even anticipate intersection collisions.
“Ford believes intelligent vehicles that talk to each other through advanced Wi-Fi are the next frontier of collision avoidance innovations that could revolutionize the driving experience and hold the potential of helping reduce many crashes,” said Sue Cischke, group vice president, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering in a recent press release.
Some of this technology is already here, in fact. Two examples are Ford’s collision warning with brake support and Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, which relies on radar sensors to detect vehicles or objects close to the vehicle.
